Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) by Dariusz C — 25 Dec 2012
Throughout The Day the Earth Stood Still, you could tell that Scott Derrickson definitely knew what direction he wanted the film to go in and what messages he wanted to get across, he just had no idea how to get there.
The plot is jumbled, littered with holes and the tempo is wildly inconsistent. The acting is absolutely terrible for the most part, but Keanu Reeves finally found the role he was destined to play, an emotionless alien who doesn't actually require acting.
The only thing this film has going for it is the badass robot, but that alone cannot salvage this wreck. Bottom line, some people may be entertained by this film, but hopefully not many, cause it's a mess.
