Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) by Ben B — 18 Jun 2011
While certainly no masterpiece, I am not sure I understand why this film was so violently panned on its release. Having deviated from the original storyline to some extent, more interaction outside of the US government would have been interesting, and Klaatu's change of direction seems somewhat arbitrary.
In any event, Bates and Connelly are good and Reeves for me was highly effective given the material. It was also nice to see him dressed as Agent Smith for the majority of the film. Anyway, worth a look for anyone with an interest in classic sci-fi films.
