Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) by Fraser H — 18 Jun 2011
"If the Earth dies the humans die, if the humans die the Earth survives. We cannot risk the survival of this planet for the sake of one species.".
An endlessly cool science-fiction remake that maintains the originality that the original had. Director Scott Derrickson delivers some real eye candy here, the special effects are absolutely spectacular. A visual wonder, a continuous blast of insane visuals, top-notch action, awesome storytelling and excellent direction. The story is a classic, the orginal was a true work of searing originality that was years before it's time, and the inventiveness lives on through this epic remake. A smart, compelling, thoughtful, inventive and riveting film that's just one big thrill from start to finish. A thunderously intense, hypnotizingly realistic, utterly perilous and an all-around complete spectacle that easily entertains. A science fiction gem that lived up to it's big-budget hype. A mystical film that delivers with a full tank of nonstop imagination and endless possibilities.
Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly both do an excellent job throughout. Reeves carries this film and does a great job of doing it, as usual.
