I do give much credit to Keanu Reeves trying to make his character stand out, and the research he put into a recreation of Klaatu is a hard one at best. But the script underwhelms him as a doomsday clock rather than an outsider.

And with a phrase like "Klaatu barada nikto" how can you take that out, even in a reimagining?! Even most recreations have the decency to keep some form of integrity before someone else's creative mind into another's.

It's really the lack of creativity and the weakness of the script that cause this film to fall very flat.
