Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) by Samantha F — 31 Dec 2010
This was a slap in the face to the late, great Michael Renney. There is no character or plot development, they don't stay true to the original storyline, and the dialogue was just plain bad. What happened to Klaatu's famous ending speech?? That was the one point in the entire movie that much of the audience was waiting for and it never happened. There was no arch to the story--just a ton of pointless special effects.
The audience's questions are never answered, and the movie seems like it's over the moment things start going wrong.
I really don't know what they hoped to accomplish with this movie--other than a way of ticking off the fans of the original movie.
