Quite possibly THE early science fiction film, this movie blends excellent special effects with an alternatively touching, tense, and dramatic plot. Though the message is probably not the sort that would be carried by an alien intelligence, I can accept said message as a reflection of how humanity should act from a human perspective.
Excellent, inspired filmmaking.
