Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Thomas L — 31 Dec 2008
I had no idea Robert Wise directed this. Talk about a diverse resume that guy has. I'm not surprised I enjoyed this so much knowing he was behind it. Klaatu was a much more interesting guy than he is in the remake, more emotionally mature for starters (Keanu's Klaatu was a rehash of Ahnuld's T2 character - "Why do humans cry?" yada yada yada).
The storyline here is as straightforward as the story demands. It entertains you while conveying its message without using a sledgehammer. Casting an unknown to play Klaatu was a genius move I wish someone had thought of for the remake.
