Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Marcus G — 11 Jan 2009
One of the top classic's that set the tone for intelligent Sci Fi movies. Brilliant score, good casting, SFX and very competent direction from a man who would go on to raise the intellectual bar in the 70's Sci Fi genre, with films such and the Andromeda Strain and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
This much earlier work though, had a much warmer and more natural directorial style than hi slater works, whic can justifiably be criticised for being too sterile.
It's message of peace, maintained under the threat of a more powerful force's impeding hammer blow, is still relevant today and this is a must see film.
