Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Óliver F — 31 Jul 2009
What can I say about the Day the Earth Stood Still? I hate to join the crowd and be like everyone else, but I honestly consider this to be one of the best, if not the best, Science Fiction films ever made. The Black & White looks gourgeus and reflects on how old the film is, the special effects are campy and primitive, yet so loveable and perfect. Michael Rennie perfectly brings Klaatu to life and actually seems like he is meaning what he is saying as if Klaatu is actually someone real.
The only thing about the Day the Earth Stood Still is how much it suffers in the modern day. Now people are film snobs and refuse to watch a Black & White film. It's a really big shame as this is one of my all time favourite films, and in my opinion one of the best ever made.
