Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Lyndon G — 20 Dec 2009
This is rather good, especially the music and photography. Surprisingly for a movie about an alien who comes in peace from a planet in our own solar system, there's quite a strong tension and even a developed menace and foreboding.
Some of the dialogue (especially early on) is pretty corny and wooden, and one gets the zeitgeist in phrases used to make things sound respectable, phrases long since worn out and replaced by other phrases that mean the same thing and that will wear out too, in a little time.
But this is a moral tale, and it still feels unconventional.
