Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Michael L — 22 Nov 2010
Just imagining what Gort would do to Glen Beck, extremists of any flavour, err Glen Beck is reason enough to dig this one out. A fantastic film of a bygone age, when fear was not celebrated and mums were happy to leave their little darlings for the day with total strangers.
Great sic-fi, the template for many to follow, with saucers circling and landing in Washington, emerging down gangways (Close Encounters, ET) and stopping time. Fantastically godless, more advanced civilizations look down and bewildered at our inability to not fight each other, send down a robot to kill us all unless we can just get along.
Liberal genius, don't piss off the robot you dicks!
