Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Jason H — 12 May 2011
Really well done 50's sci-fi. While one might expect invading alien armies and sequences of mass destruction, they won't find that here. No landmarks blowing up and no evil aliens, what we have here is a movie with a message.
And a dated message it is not. Good direction by Wise and mostly non-cheese performances propel this film to being a very good movie which happens to be in the sci-fi genre, not just a good sci-fi movie.
