Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by President P — 14 Apr 2013
One of the gems of the Sci-Fi genre, the original and best Day the Earth Stood Still, is still a great experience to watch. The film waist no time getting to the story, right off the bat a spacecraft lands in DC.
From there the story, writing, and direction blossom in to a wonderful piece of cinematic history. The acting is great, and Michael Rennie is brilliant as Klaatu. Its effect, even for a film from 1951, is much more impressive and appealing to look at than most of the overused CGI garbage of the 21st century.
Klaatu's journey is great to watch as you learn about his mission and world he comes from, and his bodyguard Gort is remarkable feat for the genre. The film progresses very well and is very interesting to watch as Klaatu does what ever can to warn the human race of its road to catastrophic end.
The Day the Earth Stood was and forever will be a victory in film both in the Sci-Fi genre and film itself. Its morals are great and still remain a perfect example for the world to this today. One of greatest Sci-Fi films of all time that helped pave the way other greats in the genre, The Day the Earth Stood Still forever will be a great watch and influential piece of cinematic history.
