Review of The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) by L J — 24 Jul 2007
Nuclear testing shifts world's axis, causing bonkers weather conditions and chaos on the streets of London (and, presumably, the rest of the planet).
Bleak- but-brilliant little disaster flick, full of snappy, witty (& realistic) dialogue. Val Guest (who also co-wrote this) brings his customary meat-&-potatoes, no-bullshit approach to the table once again (tragic to think he was reduced to making crappy sex-'comedies' by the late '70s).
Leo McKern is fantastic in this! Pre-fame Michael Caine has a tiny role as a copper.
Watch on a double-bill with Night Of The Big Heat!
