Review of The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) by Nick B — 01 Sep 2007
Brilliant piece of 60s British sf, avoiding most of the cliches of 'end of the world as we know it' movies in favour of a tale of newspapermen trying to live their lives in the face of chaos. Excellent direction from Val Guest, carrying on parts of his Quatermass style, and one of Leo McKern's best ever performances.
