Review of The Day of the Locust (1975) by Kurtis B — 01 May 2006
Strengths:
Conrad Hall's probing cinematography (obviously inspired many of the shots in "American Beauty" [1999]). Hollywood's dark underbelly. Sutherland. Meredith. Homer's gradually unraveling emotional state. Cockfighting. Tod's set design. The movie premiere. The Locusts.
Weaknesses:
Karen Black. The riot's obvious allusion to Tod's paintings. The love story.
