Review of The Day of the Jackal (1973) by Marko S — 09 Jan 2010
A classic taut thriller that does justice to Frederick Forsyth's novel, with excellent performances all round, especially Edward Fox as the titular hitman, hired to assassinate French leader General Charles de Gaulle, and Michael Lonsdale as Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel racing against the clock to stop him.
This film should not be confused with the inferior 1997 remake "The Jackal" - but I advise you to watch both movies anyway, in order to compare Edward Fox's meticulous, stone-cold assassin with the formulaic facsmilie portrayed by Bruce Willis in the remake.
