Review of The Day of the Jackal (1973) by Dimitri Y — 08 Mar 2010
A crisp and intense thriller that keeps you riding along with the police and the protagonist throughout the entirety of the film. Zinneman does a brilliant job of directing and it seems as if spending so much time in France left him largely influenced by the French New Wave filmmakers.
The scope of the crowd scenes is magnificent and the staging and composition of each of these shots is magnificent. Again, Zinneman does an amazing job of directing this film. If a class was being taught on directing they should just have their class watch this film over and again.
