Review of The Day of the Jackal (1973) by Anthony S — 17 Jan 2009
There's plenty of suspense in the original "Day Of The Jackal", mainly stemming from the fact that you're hooked on the happenings that unfold in this story about an assassin going after France's president De Gaulle.
Smooth from start to finish, it's a classy classic movie with some gorgeous shots from Italy, France, Austria and England. Scenic, but also rather slow in the progression of the story, you can't but ask yourself "will the Jackal ever be caught?".
An appropriate adaptation of Forsyth's book, the movie suffers from too much exposition (lots of talking about what people are going to do next, what they want and what they need) and a running time of close to 2 1/2 hours.
