Review of The Darwin Awards (2007) by James M — 22 Aug 2008
A criminal profiler (Joseph Fiennes) is obsessed with the Darwin awards and looks for connections between the cases in his spare time. When he loses his job as a police officer, he presents himself to an insurance company as a profiler for people likely to wind up being given a Darwin Award for their stupid deaths. The plot was definitely a stretch, and probably could have been pulled off with the right acting, script and direction, but as it stands, this little film isn't very good.
Yes, some of the scenes were amusing, but there was nothing that I found "laugh out loud" funny. I found the film rather dull, and the crap way they tried to loop things back around at the end made little to no sense to me.
There was no chemistry between the actors, and I found some scenes really hard to follow.
This film definitely had the potential to be so much better. Skip over this and look up the actual Darwin Awards on the internet - you'll probably get more of a laugh out of those than you will out of this movie.
