Review of The Darkness (2016) by Jacob B — 11 May 2016
I went in not knowing anything about this movie. I hadn't seen a trailer or even read the synopsis all I knew was it was a horror film with Kevin Bacon. Needless to say my lack of any idea what the movie would be had me excited.
It's not too often you go into a movie not knowing anything about it. Unfortunately it didn't pay off here as this film was unbearable to watch. Awful performances and a story which introduces storylines early on in the film just to forget about them completely later on.
Throw in some choppy editing, poor sound design, and a boring musical score and you get an hour and forty minutes of a bunch of scenes thrown together trying to impersonate a movie. This movie does have one redeeming quality as the premise is somewhat intriguing as it deals with spirits of an ancient Indian tribe.
Where the film falls flat is executing that premise in an decent fashion. Don't your time or money.
