Review of The Darkness (2016) by Nell A — 16 Jan 2017
I stopped watching halfway in because I got tired of the movie soundtrack loudly banging on instruments every time something got even remotely creepy - I'm here to be scared, not to be deafened through my headphones.
The cheap, flimsy scares and borderline insulting misplacement of Native culture in the narrative make the uninteresting and stereotypical characters unforgivable. From the angry teenage girl with an eating disorder whose vocabulary is generally limited to GO AWAY, to the younger assistant making moves on the much older and uncorruptable hero-dad.
.. to the autistic boy whose only true expression of autism seems to be repeating words a lot. This movie really isn't worth anyone's time, and it was a waste of money to even get made - especially the money spent on decent actors to portray flat and unlikable characters.
