Review of The Darkness (2016) by Gregory N — 13 May 2016
This movie was not good. It shares all the tropes and gags of any of your paranormal activities and poltergeist remakes. With a barebones plot that did not have me interested in the slightest throughout the entire movie.
I sat down to this movie with a bad taste in my mouth. And I stood up with one. There is multiple issues that are glaring. Like what was the point of the sisters (Her name is Stephanie, played by Lucy Fry) boyfriend?? I kid you not, this character is in this movie for 10 minutes.
And then is never seen again. Why even have him?? He added nothing to the plot. In fact, I think the only reason he was in the movie was to address Micheal's (played by David Mazouz) issue. Why have a character only meant to address the issue of one of the main characters.
It wasn't even necessary as his autism was obvious without the "he isn't afraid of what regular kids are" line. Just one of the issues that this movie has. It seemed like all of the characters "demons" were simply plot fillers.
None of them added anything to the main plot. With it's cheesy special effects this movie me felt like a spoof. And I give it a 1 star rating because of it. Not to mention the stereo typical Mexican spirit whisperer.
