Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Em G — 10 Aug 2018
This movie was a huge success. I loved every bit of it. Yes, there were predictable moments but honestly a lot of these kinda of half-action, mystery, thriller movies have predictable moments, plus even if they were predictable, they still kept me interested.
People are saying that the plot leaves holes in the storyline compared to how the book was written, but I've read all the books, and they are quite long and detailed, so it would be difficult to fit everything into an under 2 hour movie.
That's what you just have to understand about adaptations, is that it really just isn't that possible to do everything. At least the holes didn't take away from the rest of the movie, I hardly even noticed them.
This movie is getting so many bad reviews from some unhappy fans and critics, but it's hard for movies to appeal to everyone. You're gonna get quite a few kids who aren't into the kind of supernatural, dystopian stuff, but then there are a lot who love it.
Also, this movie was necessarily directed towards an adult audience, yet generally the critics reviews weigh into the decision of a sequel a lot. They can try and see it through a teens eyes, but they'll never really watch the movie the way teenagers watch it, so if the movie didn't appeal to them, it might be because they're 25 years too old for the directed audience.
The movie ended on a cliffhanger making me believe there will be a sequel so PLEASE make one!!!!! And even make a third movie. DO ALL THE BOOKS!! I can't wait for a sequel and I will be sure to watch it when it's released.
