Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Alexis S — 02 Aug 2018
I would like to start this review off by saying I am a young adult who is in the age group in which this movie is intended to be seen. I read "The Darkest Minds" by Alexandra Bracken many years before the movie came out or was even picked up by Fox.
The book was written in 2012. Many reviews have stated that this movie is "five years too late" or "trying to be like The Hunger Games". But it's not. This movie is a coming of age story about being who you are and taking control of what you believe in.
Adults will not and can not resonate with this type of story as well as teenagers today do. So, when adults write reviews for these YA novel movie adaptations, they only compare it to the most popular or successful series, for example, The Hunger Games.
They are talking down about a movie that is not made for them which in turn makes people believe when the movie is not worth seeing when it truly is. I was AMAZED by how wonderful it was to see my favorite characters appear on screen.
This movie deserves more than it is getting and is worth every penny. The Darkest Minds has so much representation from the actors to the director and every who was apart of making this dream come true which is so important now in this generation.
But all in all, The Darkest Minds tells a riveting story about kids and teens standing up for themselves and fighting for what they believe in.
