Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Lucy O — 04 Aug 2018
ABSOLUTELY loved the film, I read and FINISHED the three books a few months back and loved them too.
I have to say that the critics are being very harsh, ESPECIALLY when they say that Hollywood should give up on YA/DYSTONIA based movies since it's 'already been done' which doesn't make sense when you compare that statement to other genres that have also and still are done to death, such as all the superhero movies and all the reboots that we're always getting to this day, so when we take a few years off from a movie for YOUNG Adults, which should be enjoyed by Young Adults because that's the films targeted audience, we have it CRITIQUEd by adults that IMMEDIATELY hate it just because it's another dreaded YA book to movie adaption and then give it a low rating because YA is apparently branded bad no matter what. You can tell that they went into the movie expecting the worst and didn't keep an open mind. It, we should be encouraging more movies with new stories to tell, not turn them away without giving it a chance.
It's a great film and it's something that this GENERATION of kids can easily enjoy and get into, heck, it might even inspire you to pick up the book series to see what happens next. for book lovers like myself, we get excited because if they can make a book series that I loved into a movie, I can look forward to even more books become into adaptions in the future. To anyone who the least bit curious to what this film is or could be, please go see it in THEATERS, it's a fast paced story that can be enjoyed, characters that you love and root for and a story that will INTRIGUE you till the end. (plus there's two other books after the first so it'd be the best of they could make the whole series so book lovers can have some peace of mind.).
