Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Allison R — 04 Aug 2018
4.5.
The movie moved too fast through some of the key elements that defined the characters and their relationships with each other, which is understandable because of the time constraint. I would have liked them to at least acknowledge that there was the passage of time. Because all of these events happen over a month and a half, but in the movie it only seems like a few days. Having read the book and being a huge fan of them for years, it was one of the faithful adaptations I've seen. All of that aside this movie is very important not only to me, but to many other people. The director is a badass WOC and the cast is diverse, the lead being another equally as badass WOC. I know it's just another YA adaptation to a lot of people, but when you look deeper, it's so much more than that and I feel like people aren't giving it that time and attention it deserves. This movie breaks many boundaries and I really do hope that it gets a sequel.
