This wasn't nearly as bad as some folks claim, although this is another case of a movie that never fully lives up to its potential. There are some frightening moments, and the tension persists, but the characters were just too flat and lifeless to care about.
Also, while the concept behind the aliens was interesting, I didn't find them to be all that interesting. Worth a rental, but nothing special.
