Review of The Darkest Hour (2011) by Jessaca F — 17 May 2012
The Darkest Hour takes place in the Russian capital of Moscow where everyone speaks English very well (amazingly well!) except for the leftover Russian military toughs whose very-broken English which barely allows them to communicate with the five young Americans who find themselves trapped in the city during an alien invasion.
The oh-so-menacing aliens in The Darkest Hour have made spaceships that can get them to earth (!) but these beings appear to be nothing more floating blobs of golden light with no brains ... just like the movie (itself!)! In The Darkest Hour, the alien beings are deadly and dangerous and can vaporize earthlings (!) by releasing electriclaI discharges from their own bodies in seconds (or not .
.. it is perplexing to try to figure out but sometimes a person is just thrown about (so the character won't die and can figure into the story again down the road! ...yes, yawn!) I not even certain that either the writer (Jon Spaihts) or film's director (Chris Gorak) are trying to be smart with this as I believe they believe (wh-what?!) they have an original and fascinating, frightening alien being (! - yawn!)in n The Darkest Hour.
I do not think the story works and I think it is too frantic and as everything just kind of happens all at once ... I'm not buying it!
