The concept of an invasion by an Alien life form that is just energy seemed interesting. It could pose interesting questions and different options for the film makers than the normal invasion films. I thought that the fact they were just a bodiless entity without thought that just floated in and was attracted to energy was a bit different.
However it's not long before the aliens are revealed to have 'predator' vision, and then it's just a force field and they're actual aliens after all. Yawn....
