Review of The Darkest Hour (2011) by Chantal B — 24 Dec 2012
An enjoyable alien invasion movie. It does have terrible acting and a lot of missed opportunies; The alien reveal is subpar at best. The only thing saving the film is the clever way it breaks modern conventions about how the lead character should be revealed, some would call it a flaw, but it just wasn't that well done. Overall I did find myself enjoying the story, even with its flaws and the aliens, with the being invicible and all, never felt cheesy.
The actors that were cast did feel cheesy though, with Natalie being the worst of the group. That ass at the beginning was decent, but the rest of the survivors were pretty bad, all except for little Leo, I did manage to see why he was cast in the main role through out the film.
There were a few WTF moments, for example, when the first of the aliens drop (and remember that they are invicible), why would the police man think of hitting it with the baton? It makes no sense and there are more moments like that scattered through out the film.
One more note to keep in mind is the 3d was pretty bad. I get sick rather easily and it took me a little while to adjust, so keep that in mind.
