Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Joshua V — 17 Aug 2017
The Dark Tower is not the disaster that most critical reviews would have you believe, albeit not a film without flaws either. The story keeps certain elements from Stephen King's fantasy series, while creating a whole new story for the film.
The action sequences feel a bit rushed at times, and the settings are constantly changing; not giving the viewer time to breath it all in. However, the story is simple and coherent enough, without revealing all the in and outs of this universe (potentially this was purposefully done for future instalments?), the actors do a good job, and the short run time keeps the film from dragging on and adding too many subplots.
Overall, The Dark Tower is fairly moderate, and certainly not as subtle and thought-provoking as its source material, but it is a satisfying summer watch that shouldn't boil anyones blood.
