Unfortunately this movie, which may have been a watchable sci-fi fantasy romp, was supposed to be The Dark Tower. Bearing no resemblance to the source material served to drag this down from watchable to disappointing at best.
Sai King's writing is notoriously dense. Two of his novellas, "The Body" and "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption", were turned into full length movies, one of which is 182 minutes long. The amount of story being told in just the first book, "The Gunslinger" is more than enough for a 90 minute movie.
