Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Chiotare D — 17 Nov 2017
Disclaimer: I have not read the book.
It was a fun movie. There were some parts of the movie I wish took on another direction. The other world was definitely more interesting and pretty to look at, although the majority of the film took place on Earth. The action scenes are fun to look at and the viewers can actually see what is going on during the fighting. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey played their respective roles as expected. McConaughey had this malevolent vibe to him and as such made him interesting to watch. Elba sold me on his character's suffering and personal growth. Tom Taylor came as a surprise. I initially expected him to bring the movie down, but actually played well alongside the two leads. However, I could've used more of Elba's character than Taylor's. The plot is easy to follow, albeit a little rushed.
Overall, the movie makes for a fun popcorn flick. The actors were good, but could've done better if given the chance with a more grounded and personalized screenplay for their characters. It was a 'fine' movie.
