Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Compi24 — 12 Aug 2017
Let's be clear here. This is about as shameless as cash grabs come, with Sony clearly trying to profit off of the name of a brand alone, rather than the merits of the world within. With that said, however, this piece just skirts by for me as a movie and a movie alone - not as an adaptation of any kind of source material.
Indeed, the solid performances from Jake Taylor, Idris Elba, and Matthew McConaughey help mask all flagrant pacing and macro-structural issues running rampant in this particular work, with the vibrant world and infectious lore ultimately winning me over in the end as well.
I just simply wish these particular pieces (the world and lore, that is) were more developed and prolonged overall.
