Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Chad R — 19 Oct 2017
Risky move by the filmmakers, skipping the pipe-laying exposition phase, but fans of the book series will recognize the confusion and sense of mystery readers felt when opening "The Gunslinger." A hallmark of science fiction/fantasy readers is the ability to trust the author and suspend disbelief, knowing all will become clear in time.
Come prepared to watch this movie like an SF reader !The movie does not closely follow the books, but the characters are authentic, we recognized and loved them, and we enjoyed this fresh take on the story.
(Roland still loves Coke, too, nice touch.) Loved the development of Walter's character, M. McC. was brilliant. Just like the books, this movie isn't for everyone. Highly recommend reading a couple books before watching! Nice work, everyone.
