Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Magdalena G — 08 Sep 2017
Dear Reader, all good reviews have massive spoilers and this is no exception, if you still want to keep going, I promise you will not be disappointed.
Do you remember how The Dark Tower ended? The last paragraph, sort of reads as follows:
"Roland touched the horn again, and his reality was strangely comforting, as if he had never touched it before. Time to get moving. The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed him. ".
Ka is a wheel, isn't it? And that is why I am amazed to see the immense amount of critics who either did not read the book, did not understand it or simply did not pay attention to the film; which, let me tell you here and now, was excellent.
In the beginning, when the movie starts, it is confusing. The movie predisposes you, because you understand the things that happen, but they are out of context; the criticisms predispose you, because they all proclaim how big of a disappointment the movie was, and then you stop paying attention ... you understand what is happening, but there is no harmony with the history that we know and love; and that's the big mistake: the Dark Tower movie is not an adaptation of the books, it's their prolongation.
Please, do not dismiss the idea, meditate a little. Roland restarted his hunt after the man in black, this time having the Horn of Eld with him, did you see it in the movie? It makes its appearance a couple of times and, the moment you notice its presence, you feel the face of your father returning to your memory and then, everything makes sense.
Jake's father died, but Jake is still alive; Roland only seeks revenge and is not interested in reaching the Dark Tower, much less save it. Why? Because it is another version of the story, a new one, which could mean that, if he reaches the Tower again, this time, the result could be different.
The endless possibilities that the film of The Dark Tower opens is overwhelming; and allows us, members of this ka-tet, to savor a little more this magnificent story that is much more vast and complex than we could have ever imagined.
The producers have already announced that there will be three films in a row. In the first film, we were introduced to the new story with Jake and Roland, could it be that in the next two of them, our heroes meet the gunslingers whose absence was so censored? Could it be that in the series we will be told the story of a second round (that we know of) towards the Tower? Could this mean a definitive end? Maybe even a happy ending?
