Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Samantha E — 06 Aug 2017
First, you have to consider that they put together a 90 min film using at least four different books. Coming at this from a writer's persceptive, this is an impressive bit of script-writing and it kept me very interested for the full run-time. Every movie should do that. Now, obviously there are some lack of details that would have made it better, but it was also obviously made for an audience already familiar with the series. Either way, I'm hooked and going to get the book series just to see how much worse the Man in Black is.
What I find unfair however is the critics bashing on Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, and/or the Man in Black as a character in general. The thing is, we really haven't seen a villain-type like this before in movies, and McConaughey looked like he was definitely having fun playing a character (making me have fun with the character as well, love to hate the Man in Black), and according to a friend of mine who has read the books the Man in Black's character needs to be let out under a higher rating. He's much more vile in the books I'm told.
Overall, a fun movie that I would absolutely get on DVD, got me interested in reading all eight books, and hyped for the potential TV series! Definitely worth a watch!
