Just saw this. I went to it with an open mind, to see it as a free-standing movie, and it was very good. I haven't read all of The Dark Tower books, but as a standalone presentation, it's probably the best movie I've seen this year, so I'm somewhat mystified at the big raspberry the critics seem to collectively emit.
It's pacing is good, it's imtelligible, the characters are all absorbing, and the CGI is neither imtrusive nor sloppy. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
