For those expecting a play by play of the book, you will be disappointed. This is more like a side story from the series, told mainly from the point of view of Jake Chambers. It's over all a clever adaptation, and Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey have great on-screen chemistry.
Tom Taylor's performance as Jake Chambers was moving and believable as an emotionally damaged tween plagued by nightmares involving a mysterious man in black and a dark tower.
