Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Jim C — 05 Aug 2017
So I first want to say that I love the books and was very excited and worried leading up to the release of this movie. But I can say that I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I don't know why I let critics scare me off from movies.
First off, they did not try to fit all 7 books into this one movie. Plenty of story left to tell, but it could be it's own stand alone movie also. Idris KILLED it as Roland and was a gutsy but brilliant decision to cast him, despite what the diehards say.
It was exciting to see the elements of Midworld on the big screen with new story elements being told. I think fans THINK they want to see the exact story from a book on the screen until it happens. And then it's boring.
The action scenes were awesome and I loved how they were able to bring to life Roland's skill (including the reloading trick). My wife who has never read any of the books also loved it and thought the story was interesting and she could follow it easily despite not reading the books.
