Review of The Dark Tower (2017) by Kadeem S — 05 Aug 2017
I'm shocked that The Dark Tower doesn't even have an IMAX screening, which is a shame. But as much as Sony as concern, I felt that The Dark Tower should've been a big deal since it was in development for over 10 years. Don't get me wrong, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey actually did a stellar job delivering top-notch performances. But sadly, this is perhaps one of the weakest Stephen King movies of all time. Judging its book by its cover, The Dark Tower isn't exactly how you always wanted as a summer blockbuster movie. It tries to hang on for it's dear life. I haven't even read the book series (even though the story revolves the tale of The Gunslingers), so hopefully I might check it out cause I have Audible. Yeah, the movie is far from great if only they get the bloody source material right. Despite it's great premise, strong characters, and a great tale of mythology in a post-apocalyptic setting, the worst part bout this movie is the fucking runtime of 95 minutes of slow-paced action and a confusing story. When I first heard about it, I was like "WHATTTTTTTTT??????? 95 minutes?" Can't this movie just run for 2 1/2 hours? And what's up with this whole "Man In Black" character? More like Men In Black 4 to me!
Bottom line: Great cast just can't sell a movie that tries to balance from the gritty to the somewhat cheesy, I will see The Dark Tower if only I'd prefer a rental.
