The Lord of the Rings movies didn't have cyborgs and laser guns. Harry Potter didn't replace magic with technology. The Shining wasn't set on the moon.
But whatever idiots made The Dark Tower seemed to be less interested in making a movie of my favorite book series than making their own movie with only the most superficial and shallow elements of the books included.
Pick up the book. This movie does nothing but turn my beloved story into a Hollywood action movie by numbers.
