On a scale of 1 to 19 I'd give it a 15. I think the story could have benefited from being longer and introducing the characters and settings a but more slowly. Idris as Roland was spot on at times, especially in his line delivery at the hospital and on the bus(or subway) as well as his scenes with Walter.

In my opinion Matthew McConaughey nailed Walter and was a very convincing villain. His magic use was badass and he portrayed a sorcerer very well with malevolent intent. Tom Taylor was both stiff and believable at different points in the film.

I'm conflicted with his performance which was spotty here and there but showed range in other parts. The film doesn't affect my view of the books but that leads to my most mixed reaction: since this is another cycle events take place in such a different way but I'm familiar with so much source material, it's a bizarre feeling.

I'm not sure if the films development taking forever contributes to the film paying off but I'm not disappointed with the movie I saw overall. I am very excited to see another film or more in an in depth mini series.

My favorite take on Roland is the books character but Idris has so much to offer the role and I believed he was Roland. I can clearly see the film taking place in the same universe the books established but I just wish we had more time to invest in learning about mid world thoughout the film.

I totally want to read the series over again now. Critics gave me a nervous hesitation but I'm glad I saw the film for myself. Favorite line..... Walter talking to Roland through the orb was awesome.

And Roland telling those girls that they had forgotten the faces of their fathers was side splitting. I don't remember getting chills but I remember getting very antsy and excited during many scenes! The Score was decent.

Nothing too memorable to me. Some parts felt like mid world but I need to see more. The rose at the end was a fitting bit if foreshadowing. The various elements from other books blended into this story didn't bother me more like amazed me with how thay fit so much in.

And Arcel definitely remembered the fave of his father. I feel like he did the material as much justice as he could given its vast wealth of lore and the great expectations many fans would have.
