Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Lupe W — 07 Jun 2016
This film has not aged well. At.All.
The Dark Knight Rises is a bad film. The villains are poorly realized, a strength of the previous entries has been turned into a glaring weakness. Dialogue between Batman and Bane is incomprehensible, bordering on unintentionally hilarious. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman just doesn't work, she lacks the slinky sexiness and grace to pull it together, having more of a girl-next door aura. Thalia al Ghul is a mess and her death scene is one of the worst Ive ever seen in Hollywood, it's pure comedy. So cringe.
The stunt coordination is horrible. Not mediocre, but absolutely horrible. The fights are so robotics and ineffective, it's like watching drunk men ineffectively try to hit each other.
As for the story, it is unsatisfying. It is full of plot holes that totally undermine the legacy of the preceding entries in this franchise. The Dark Knight sailing off into the sunset and leaving Gotham unprotected is a different tale to tell after setting up that the city needed a protector who was willing to go the extra mile that average citizens and even law enforcement could not.
When this movie was release it was the first time we actually saw rabid zealot fanboys mobilize to bully & harass any reviewer/critic that would dare question this film, the result is a bloated and fraudulent critical consensus.
Now that time has passed, reality has set in. This is a very bad film. Ouch!
