This seems more like a gritty heist film than a 'Batman' movie. From the pacing to characters 'The Dark Knight' is the definitive film of this genre. There is something for everyone and plenty of references for 'die hard' fans.
Considering this is a film that came out in 2008, the practical effects used by Nolan help it stand the test of time like many other superhero films haven't. Heath Ledger's turn as the Joker is chilling and completely unforgettable much like the film itself .
