Review of The Dark Knight (2008) by Archie S — 10 Apr 2016
Not only the epitome of great superhero movies, but also great cinema. This film provides the best onscreen depiction of a dynamic between a hero and villain. Heath Ledger's transformation into the Joker is one of the strongest performances in film, and still leaves a huge impact today, as it is the most real and genuine portrayal of a comic-book character.
He doesn't steal the show; he's the main attraction. The story is also the strongest in the Dark Knight trilogy, depicting Batman going to his limits to thwart the Joker's plans, drawing the line between hero and vigilante, and demonstrating the tragic downfall of a good man into criminal, in the character of Harvey Dent/Two Face.
Besides some of the dialogue being a bit pretentious and obvious at times, overall, Christopher Nolan delivers one of the most well-made and thought-provoking blockbusters of all time, and one of my favourite movies.
