Review of The Dark Knight (2008) by James H — 31 May 2016
With the origins story covered. Nolan was able to spread his wings and do what ever he wanted to do. He took Batman and Gotham to an even darker place with great characters that are well fleshed out and explained during the film without slowing down the pace of it or stopping the action/ story telling.
The script is fantastic and the themes promoted make sense to the characters motivations. One of the biggest credits I can give this is that there is so much going on during the 2 and a half hour run time, yet Nolan balances it all perfectly.
There are of course great performances in this, as there are in all of Nolan's films, but Ledger's in particular is one of the greatest of all time. He took the character of the Joker to lengths no one expected.
What I love though is you spend your the last 40 minutes or so of this movie on the edge of your seat and the end scene is perfect. So satisfying. This film is as iconic as they come and deserves the title of being the greatest comic book movie of all time.
Because it is. Without a doubt.
