Review of The Dark Knight (2008) by Billy G — 08 Jun 2017
'The Dark Knight' is a classic superhero film that will probably go down as one of the best in the genre. Bale's Batman is given a more than worthy opponent with Heath Ledger's Joker. In fact Ledger really steals the show away from Bale.
He's scary and funny at the same time. Their relationship is at the heart of this film and every scene between them is a highlight. Christopher Nolan succeeded at making a movie that will please most Batman fans while making it non-nerd friendly for those who aren't too familiar with comics.
The downside to this film mainly has to do with Harvey Dent's subplot. I understand why he was an essential part of the overall story. However his descent into villainy was very rushed at the end and he ended up coming across as very whiny as opposed to menacing.
Batman still sounds like he needs a lozenge. Unfortunately Bale wasn't given direction to change that ridiculous voice. 'The Dark Knight' may be the best live-action Batman film ever made (so far).
I don't envy any future Batman films that try to best this one.
