Review of The Dark Crystal (1982) by Gavin C — 24 Jun 2011
It turns out that there's a lot of fantasy movies out there besides the ones that were based on books including "The Lord of the Rings", "Harry Potter", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and many more. They were based on their creative ideas which is the reason why we get Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal. Let's just say I've never heard of this movie before, but when it comes to Jim Henson, I checked it out on DVD, watched it, and I was left thrilled with excitement. I'm gonna write the plot before my opinion.
It revolves around Jen, the last of the Gelflings is sent on a journey to heal the dark crystal with the missing shard, but little does he know that the evil Skekses sent their evil minions to hunt down Jen and kill him before he can heal it. Along the way, Jen meets another gelfling named Kira as they face the dangers that lie ahead of them.
The only problem that I had with this movie was the pacing. It was kind of overlong and wasn't that developed enough.
As for the rest of the movie, everything turned out good. It has solid acting, great visuals, some good action scenes, and a creative premise which makes The Dark Crystal a darker and powerful Jim Henson film.
8/10.
